Police Call Moline Beating A Hate Crime
Police are calling an alleged Moline beating a hate crime. One man is under arrest and officers are looking for three others after a fight Wednesday night.
Investigators say 17 year old Alfredo Gutierrez was part of a group armed with bricks, sticks, and large pieces of wood chasing a man and woman and yelling racial slurs.
Police said the man was beaten and his keys and rosary were taken. Gutierrez was arrested, but police are looking for three more people 18 year old Alberto Alba, 18 year old Alejandro Gonzalez Jr., and a 17 year old Alberto Rosas.
All of them face charges of aggravated robbery, mob action, and a hate crime. Police said it could have been worse. They said neighbors helped scare the suspects away.
One neighbor walked the 4th Avenue block she calls home Friday, the same place she saw a young woman beaten and cursed at just nights ago.
